Offer FlexiLay payment plans on your WooCommerce store

The FlexiLay plugin adds a lay-by payment option to your WooCommerce checkout. Customers pay a deposit today and the balance in scheduled instalments, collected automatically into your own Stripe account — and your orders update themselves as payments come in.

1

Install and activate the plugin

In WordPress admin go to Plugins → Add New and search for “FlexiLay Layby & Payments”, then install and activate it (WooCommerce must be installed and active). It's also available from the Woo Marketplace. A FlexiLay menu appears in your WooCommerce admin.

2

Register your store and wait for approval

The plugin registers your store with FlexiLay automatically the first time you open it — no separate signup. New stores get a quick review by our team; you'll receive an email when you're approved (usually well within a business day).

3

Complete onboarding from wp-admin

Open the FlexiLay menu in your WordPress admin. The embedded dashboard walks you through accepting the merchant terms and connecting your Stripe account — every payment settles directly to your Stripe; FlexiLay never holds your funds.

Once onboarding completes, the FlexiLay gateway enables itself at checkout. You can always manage it under WooCommerce → Settings → Payments.

How orders work day to day

A customer who selects FlexiLay at checkout is taken to a secure FlexiLay payment page to choose their deposit and schedule, and pays the deposit by card. Your WooCommerce order then tracks the plan automatically:

  • On hold while instalments are running (deposit paid, balance outstanding)
  • Processing when the plan is paid in full — that's your signal to fulfil (lay-by: goods ship after full payment)
  • Cancelled if the plan is cancelled or abandoned — no stock held hostage

Track every plan and payment in detail from the FlexiLay menu in wp-admin. Instalments, retries, overdue reminders and receipts are all handled by FlexiLay.

Date-sensitive products: set a payment deadline

Selling tickets, bookings or anything that must be paid off by a certain date? On the product edit screen (General tab, plugin 1.4.4+) there's a "FlexiLay: must be paid by" date field. When a customer buys that product with FlexiLay, their schedule options are limited so every instalment falls on or before that date — and if the date is too close for instalments, they simply pay in full at setup. Leave the field blank for no deadline (the default).

  • Mixed carts use the earliest date across all items — a ticket plus a t-shirt inherits the ticket's deadline.
  • Past dates are ignored, so a stale product field never blocks a sale.
  • The deadline shapes the schedule; if a payment later fails, normal retry and overdue handling still apply.

Testing: ask us to enable demo mode on your account and you can walk the whole checkout without a real charge.
